If you haven’t peeked into Main Street Pickers at 408 N. Main Street in Duncanville, you should. Nick Nichols, has a created a space full of treasures, ranging from antiques to mid-century-modern furniture to quirky pieces you won’t find anywhere else. He also features some local artists such as Tomas Artiga and Gene Gregory.

After Nick retired from Levine’s Department Stores, he opened up a couple of booths at Knick Knacks, where he sold his treasures for close to three years. When the space in the old Mason’s lodge on Main and Davis streets opened up in Summer 2016, he saw a great opportunity to put his retail experience to work. After some renovations, Main Street Pickers opened on July 13, 2016.

For the artsy-craftsy folks out there, Nick has a nice variety of chalk-based paint colors to choose from for a great price. The paints can be used on furniture, wood, metal, glass, and fabrics. When you’re in the shop, be sure to check out some of the painting projects Nick’s working on too.

Personal note: I was delighted to see the old Fain Street Surgical Clinic sign behind the cash register. Dr. Hugh Murray was the “ostetric” (sic) doctor who delivered me – during office hours – on a Monday back in the early 1970s.

Make sure you swing by Main Street Pickers during the next Duncan Switch Street Market (third Saturday from 8-2). Or take a look at Main Street Pickers Facebook page for a look at Nick’s fun finds.
